The site is situated adjacent to a river and overlies a limestone aquifer.
Site investigation works included traditional boreholes and rotary boreholes within the bedrock. Direct measurement of impact upon the adjacent river was also undertaken.
Using the data collected from the investigation, a quantified risk assessment was undertaken in accordance with the U.S. E.P.A. protocols to enable trigger levels for remediation to be established.
The trigger levels were discussed with the Environment Agency and were adopted within the contract for remediation works.

In order to save time and costs during the works, chemical analysis for key critical organic contaminants was undertaken on the site using an enzyme technique.
Two further phases of site investigations followed, and ExCAL also provided environmental support during remediation.
