The Ground Investigation was commissioned to determine the nature of the ground beneath the development site, and to quantify the presence, if any, of ground contamination.
The investigation comprised two elements: -
- Excavation of 95 trial pits and 8 bore holes to determine the nature of the ground;
- Collection and analysis of soil samples to determine the extent of ground contamination.
An Environmental Consultant was present on site at all times to supervise the works undertaken by the sub-contractor.
ExCAL is also responsible for supervising the bio-remediation of the site. The process of Bioremediation through the construction of a system of Biopiles involves the moving of organic contaminated soils into heaps or piles above the ground and blending with green compost. Aerobic microbial activity will then metabolise the organic contamination adsorbed onto the soil particles.ExCAL is responsible for testing the biopiles in our on-site laboratory and ensuring that the site remediation targets are met.
In addition to the above ExCAL also undertake the following activities on site: -
- General Environmental Management of the site;
- Asbestos surveying and sampling;
- Supervision of excavations to delineate areas of contamination;
- Supervision of Waste Management Activities;
- Liaison with the Local Authority and Environment Agency;
- Noise and dust monitoring;
- Onsite chemical testing.
